What a week it has been...
We have officially completed our first week of ARCTIC COLD up here in the North country. Lucky for Dom he got to go home to AZ for 3 of the worst days...hmmm...how did that workout? Well, there was A LOT of explaining in FULL detail of exactly how cold it was here, while he was there in nearly a 100 degree difference from what we were living in.
My favorite tidbit from the week though, was my Mom calling me and telling me not to go outside...well...I wasn't going to be able to fulfill that demand... She then continued to explain that she read on Yahoo that "someone could freeze to death in 10 minutes in MN today." I'm usually one to prove things wrong...but I wasn't going to mess with that prediction. That was Wednesday, our high -2 (that little minus sign would make that a NEGATIVE). And that doesn't even account for that lovely little thing called WINDCHILL.
Then came Thursday....OMG...yeah...I didn't even walk out our front door that day. I knew it was serious when I just so happened to check my email and find this...
Weather Alert-- School Canceled Due to Sub Zero Temperatures
School will be closed tomorrow--January 15--due to below zero temps and severe windchill factor.

SO, let me clarify why this particular email was disturbing to me and my little AZ life experience. I had heard of and actually experienced snow days...but this was a different beast all together...this was a *?$*@ freezing day that called for school to be closed because it would actually HURT you to go outside. WOW! Ahhh...the letters home.... Negative 40 (with windchill), and the brightest sunshine you could imagine...what a twisted experience. But when all is whined about and done, we are really loving it here. I keep explaining that I don't really notice the weather when it's warm inside...I am just living in complete opposite of my "old" life...going from a heated house, to a heated car, to a heated building (rather then AC). Driving is now dealing with slick snow & ice, rather then gun carrying road ragers...both deadly if you catch them just right....And I have become accustomed to feeling like I am speeding if I am over 40 MPH, rather then feeling like I am crawling at 50.
It's funny how much I have enjoyed transitioning to this slower paced way of life because I used to think I enjoyed the fast lane I made in AZ, but now I realize I didn't get to really enjoy what I was speeding through. I only hope I don't get left far behind my other fast lane buddies ;) Besides, I look cute in hats and sweaters!
